Quick Tips to manage Oily or greasy hair

Who doesn't want voluminous and bouncy hair? Healthy and silky hair adds a lot of beauty to our face. But sometimes hair becomes oily due to various factors and makes it look flat. This also makes our face look dull and lifeless. Factors like humid climate, oily scalp, poor hygiene and wrong styling products contribute to this greasiness of hair. Fortunately, there are many quick fixes to minimize the oiliness without actually washing it. Among them, dry shampoo is the most popular one.

Let us first know some causes of the greasiness and check out some Do's and Don’ts to prevent it. The sebaceous glands in our scalp produce sebum which is good for healthy hair. But sometimes the scalp produces extra oil which makes it flat. One cause for it might be genetic or hereditary. Other reasons are unhealthy beauty habits, poor hair hygiene, humid climate, poor diet, unsuitable styling products, etc.

Don’ts

·        washing hair too much, as it opens the hair follicles, producing more sebum
·        applying more conditioner, it weighs down the hair
·        touching hair too much with hands
·        combing too much
·        Using too much hair gels, sprays, mousse, etc.
·        washing hair with hot water, as it stimulates the sebaceous glands

Do’s

·        Wash hair once a day
·        Apply a small amount of conditioner to the tip of the hair, avoid being too close to the roots.
·        wash hair with cold water

Now, there are various types of quick fixes for oily hair. The most popular one available is oily hair shampoo. Other than this, some other hacks work just same as it.

 1. Talcum powder: Sprinkle a generous amount of talcum or baby powder to the oily hair. Wipe off the excess with a towel. The powder will soak in the oil quickly.
 2. Baking soda: Sprinkle some baking soda on the oily scalp and hair, and see how quickly it soaks in the excess oil from your hair.
 3. Cornstarch: Just like baking soda, sprinkle some cornstarch to the greasy roots and leave in for a minute to get fresh hair.
 4. Blow-dry: Spray some water to the front section of your oily hair and blow it dry with cool air. The grease will lessen to a great extent.
 5. Facial tissue: Grab some facial tissue and wipe off the excess oil from the scalp. Just like the oil in your face, the tissue will absorb the oil in the hair also.

These hacks will fix your greasy hair instantly and give you a much fresher look.

For those who always have their hair excessively oily, there are a lot of natural ways to lessen it permanently. Here are a few very effective home remedies-

·         Wash hair twice a week with a little amount of Apple cider vinegar.
·         Adding some baking soda to the shampoo also does wonders to minimize the oil.
·         Once a week, wash hair with a little amount of mouthwash and witch hazel.
·        Dry scalp also promotes oily hair, so apply coconut or olive oil to moisturize the scalp.
·        Make a hair mask with oatmeal and a few drops of lemon. Leave it to your hair for about thirty minutes. Apply this mask once a week.
·        Add few drops of Tea Tree oil to Olive oil and apply it to your scalp once a week.

Of course, no remedies will provide results overnight. Try the above home remedies with perseverance and say goodbye to oily hair permanently.
